log rotation to S3

Reported by Sanne Grinovero | January 19th, 2009 @ 08:13 AM | in Future

It would be very nice if the jboss-log4j.xml could have a new appender to upload logs to S3 instead of doing the traditional rotation. I think an extension to org.jboss.logging.appender.DailyRollingFileAppender could do the trick, adding dependencies to some EC2 lib and possibly a compression step.

In addition to the usual, it would be needed to configure a "bucket" and a filename pattern, possibly including the servername but also the role (group of EC2?) and node number.

IMHO this would be useful even for people not running instances on EC2, as S3 is a widespread and reliable backup platform even for other use cases.
